Surface Surcharge - Passive Earth Pressure
For passive earth pressure only an increment due to vertical uniform load fa is determined using the formula:

The vertical uniform load q acting on the ground surface therefore results in a constant increment of passive pressure applied over the entire length of wall - see figure.
